As the name suggests, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is an agency of the European Union (EU) with responsibility for civil aviation safety.    Headquarters at Cologne, Germany, EASA was formed on 12 July 2002. Currently, EASA is governed under the European Regulation number: (EU) 2018/1139; which repeals all other previous regulations passed in the past.

EASA has a team of 800+ Aviation experts and administrators, spread over headquarter and 4 international permanent representative offices in Canada, USA, China and Singapore. In the year 2018 EASA spent approximately 161 Million Euro; majority of which came from the fee paid by the industry and in the form of EU subsidy. 

The main tasks of EASA includes: Draft implementing rules for aviation safety, Certify & approve airworthiness of products, Provide oversight and support to Member States in fields of Air Operations and Air Traffic Management.
