Safety Chain
Safety Chain to be as per IS 3076:1984 Grade T (8) or latest. The specifications as issued b y RDSO are to be adhered to in their entirety except that the nominal size (thickness) of the short link cha in is to be 13 mm (?0.5mm) to 14 mm (?0.5 mm) and long links at ends with ring/suitable locking arrange ment for padlocking is to be of the length of 4.5 meters. Further, the length of the short link is to be 60 m m (12.5 x 4 +10 mm tolerance) to 70 mm (14.5 x 4+12 mm tolerance) and the width of the short-link cha in shall be 40 mm (12.5 mm x 3+2.5 mm tolerance) to 46 mm (14.5 min x 3+2.5 mm tolerance). These a re electrically welded round steel short link chains, fully heat treated and tested and comply with the gen eral conditions of acceptance of ISO 1834 or latest. The sizes range from 5 to 45 mm. (based on user req uirement). The steel used shall be produced by the open hearth or electric process, or by an oxygen blow process. It shall be steel alloy. Marking shall be done as per IS 3076:1984 Grade T(8) or latest. Supplier s hall supply a certificate of test and examination carried out by the government owned lab or NABL approv ed labs with every supply of chain. There should be name of the chain maker, grade of material, size of ch ain, identification marking, proof force applied to the whole chain. No. of test sample taken, breaking forc e of each sample, total ultimate elongation at fracture, During manufacture the heat treated chain shall b e subjected to force of 60% of the minimum breaking force.
