The ABF is Australia-s frontline border law enforcement agency and customs service. The ABF facilitates legitimate trade and secures Australia by adopting a screening and intervention strategy to detect and manage border vulnerabilities. The ABF-s screening and intervention capabilities are multi-layered, and focus on prevention, deterrence and detection of movement of illicit goods and travel across the border continuum. The Request For Information (RFI) activity is structured in two parts and responses can be provided for any one or both parts. • Part 1 - 2D container x-ray solutions • Part 2 - Automated Threat Detection (ATD) For Part 1 of the RFI the ABF is seeking information on 2D Container x-ray solutions to modernise its current operating environment and to explore potential future innovative solutions that could enable x-ray technology to be located earlier in the supply chain. • Modernise current operations - The ABF currently perform x-ray inspections of sea containers at Container Examination Facilities (CEFs) located at each major port. Advances in container x-ray technology provides the ABF with an opportunity to modernise and upgrade its container x-ray capabilities. • Future innovation - The ABF are interested in investigating potential future ways of working that could enable x-ray technology to be located earlier in the supply chain than the current CEF approach.
