UV radiation is the cancer and the main cause of skin cancer. Skin cancers have stronger growth rates worldwide in the light -skinned population than all other cancer. In Germany, every seventh man and every ninth woman develop skin cancer up to the age of 75, with a significant increase in incidence. In particular, with regard to the emerging increase in the UV burden as a result of climate change, a further increase in the number of illness is expected. However, a dose-effect relationship for the German population between natural UV radiation and the risk of skin cancer has not yet been described. However, this is of great importance for the optimization of radiation protection measures and for effective strategies for skin cancer prevention.
Epidemiological studies form the essential basis for the derivation of dose-effect relationships.
