This work is conducted on both EXWC vessels and ships of opportunity. NAVFAC EXWC?s Ocean Department (OC) conducts research, development, test and evaluation in specific areas to include the study of the physical characteristics and the design and construction of buoyant structures; including construction and operation of mechanical equipment of these structures; ocean engineering associated with fixed structures on the seafloor; ocean cable infrastructure; underwater excavation, drilling, tunneling, cable shore landing, and earth moving; equipment and tools for underwater construction; ocean current measurement systems and other engineering sensors; underwater power sources; electrical power distribution equipment and transmission systems; and surface and underwater load handling systems.
