BACKGROUND: Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF), a naval industrial facility located in Bremerton Washington, maintains, overhauls, and repairs various vessels of the US Navy. Over 14, 000 military and civilian personnel work to “maintain and modernize our Navy-s fleet”.

PSNS & IMF-s goal is to provide customers with quality, timely, and cost-efficient maintenance, modernization, and technical and logistics support. PSNS & IMF operates sites in Bremerton, Bangor, Everett, San Diego, Boston, Japan, and wherever its workers are required to travel to conduct work on Navy ships. To provide top quality service for the combat war fighter, PSNS & IMF must maintain a highly trained and skilled workforce. This is accomplished through a workforce education initiative that includes an Apprenticeship, Helper Trainee, and After-hours program.

PSNS & IMF is conducting market research to determine industry capability and interest for delivering educational services in support of 1) a federally registered Apprentice Program, 2) a supporting Helper Trainee Program, and 3) an After-Hours Training Program. During the apprenticeship, as part of their normal work schedule/assignment, Apprentices will receive on site (at the PSNS & IMF designated apprentice school building/s, current Apprentice School - Building 460, 2nd and 3rd Floors) live classroom instruction provided by an accredited educational institution. Apprentices will receive on site, accredited industrial trade-based instruction from government personnel, whom have been designated to teach apprentices their trade and develop, apply, and refine their knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA-s) through On the Job Learning (OJL) in scheduled work experience through each of the respective trade-s established key processes.
