Description
The Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency (DCSA) intends to award a firm-fixed price contract to University of South Carolina (USC) in accordance with FAR 13.5 for research on contactless blood pressure monitoring and natural language process in deception detection. The research along with the results of human subject testing, will result in the development of an avatar for automated interviews. Physiological and NLP data collection systems will be developed to process credibility assessment interviews. Various aspects of the examinee-s speech, including sentiment (negative, positive, and neutral), emotion (happy, sad, anger, disgust etc.), intent (question, acknowledgement, opinion, referral etc.) shall be recognized and classified. These features will be combined in productive ways using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. Software will be developed that can convert the examiner and examinee speech into a written transcript and identify deceptive utterances. Physiological features based largely on novel cardiovascular information including mean arterial pressure, pulse transit time, and LVET, and including other physiological data channels such as electrodermal activity and respiration, shall also be extracted and stored in a separate database. The utility of these novel physiological features for the development of improved credibility assessment algorithms shall be explored.
USC is deemed to be the only source that can fulfill this requirement due to their unique qualification in conducting similarly research in thermal image system, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and AI creation; possessing vetted security facilities; possessing interdisciplinary expertise and internal review process; possessing specialized equipment with skilled operators; and close proximity of location allowing effective and efficient collaboration (3 blocks away).
