Quotation are invited for Baseline Study of Soil Heavy Metals in Abu Dhabi Emirates

BIDDING OPENS ON: 14 March 2024
DUE ON: 27 March 2024

The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) is seeking experienced consultants for an environmental study focused on establishing baseline levels of heavy metals in the soil across the Abu Dhabi Emirates. The project aims to distinguish between human-induced and geological sources of pollution. It encompasses reviewing existing data, conducting field surveys, applying remote sensing and artificial intelligence techniques for data analysis, and utilizing XRD analysis. The initiative also includes capacity building for teams to enhance environmental management. The outcomes of this project will serve as a primary input to update Abu Dhabi's soil contamination guidelines, reflecting the natural distribution of contaminants in alignment with the Emirate's economic development. This study is essential for assessing the impacts of environmental pollution, improving soil quality management, and refining remediation and regulatory strategies. Project Objectives: • Establish baseline levels of heavy metals across the region. • Understand chemical forms of these metals and assess their impact. • Distinguish between natural and anthropogenic sources of soil contamination. • Provide policy and management guidelines based on findings. • Refine existing soil contamination guidelines. Scope of Work: The selected consultant will undertake: • Project Mobilization: Set up the necessary team, secure permissions, and procure equipment. • Data Review and Literature Survey: Analyze existing data and conduct comprehensive literature reviews. • Development of Working Protocols and Sampling Strategies. • Field Survey and Soil Sample Collection. • Heavy Metal Speciation Analysis. • Data Analysis, Mapping, and Pattern Correlation. • Capacity Building and Training for EAD staff. • Comprehensive Reporting Requirements, including interim reports and a final comprehensive report. Time Frame: This project will span three years, with flexibility based on justifiable revisions.
