Problem to be solved (aka Description of the Challenge): The City of Turin, in accordance with AMIAT-Iren (waste collection provider of the City), would like to stimulate proper disposal and recycling/reuse of non-wearable textiles (e.g. linens, towels) and small WEEE (e.g. smartphone, small appliances, earplugs). In fact, these products represent the least tracked and properly-dismissed categories of waste but still contribute to the overall emission of CO2 - locally and globally. Working on these waste categories can also help stimulate citizens- action and to raise awareness. To improve the situation, a better understanding of the entire waste management system and the overall impact (negative and positive) of the end-of-product chain might help detect areas of intervention, to calculate emissions and to act through punctual policies. Furthermore, it could help raise awareness and engage key stakeholders. To improve collection capacity, reuse and circular opportunities of WEEE/textile waste, it is necessary to support collaborative, cross-sectoral effort through active exchange of knowledge, dissemination, targeted communication and educational activities aimed at different groups - all contributing at different levels to the use, production and - consequently - reduction of waste.
