The Federal and State Pension Fund (VBL) is a legal institution under public law jointly supported by the federal and state governments. Its purpose is to provide employees with additional old-age, incapacity and disability insurance through their employer through private insuranceto provide survivors' benefits. VBL is one of the largest institutional investors in Germany. Around 50 billion euros are currently invested in the capital market. Part of these capital assets is tied up in holding real estate (direct investment). The VBL therefore has a scoperich real estate portfolio. The properties are mainly distributed across the regions of Hamburg, Hanover, Berlin, Duesseldorf, Cologne, the Ruhr area, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Munich. The strategic management of the inventory takes place from Karlsruhe and the support is provided on sitecarried out by external service providers. The focus of VBL's real estate management until 2021 was on the management of the properties held directly by VBL (direct portfolio).
