Procurement Plan for CO2 Capture and Utilisation for Urea Production - Feasibility and Pilot Plant Studies

Scope of Work (Brief Description):It is proposed to undertake a comprehensive study to explore the potential of utilising the ZOR CO2 sources (mainly HPU flue gas/PSA tail gas and other sources) for utilising the same to produce Urea along with H2 (from solar PV-electrolyser) and N2 from PSA. This study could be considered as part of the ZOR decarbonisation as well as PRIZe decarbonisation with the added value of the study small-scale urea production, could further lead to development of pilot scale set up to quantify the benefits for a small-scale Urea production unit.
The FS could span a period of 2 months (Stage-1) and pilot study set up/ results could span 6-8 months (Stage-2). Stage-1 may be estimated to be 100, 000 KWD and Stage-2 will depend on the route followed (set up Justification for cost plus engineering), rescheduling the execution dates from as of now, KPC is 2023-24 to 2024-25. executing the EOR project for KOC Minagish Field in which CO2 recovered from KNPC MAA/MAB and KIPIC-s ZOR HPU are planned to be adopted for different phases of the project.
KPC has appointed M/s Shell to work on the feasibility study to improve the cost of CO2 recovery for meeting the above objective. Currently this project is ongoing and further availability of CO2 from ZOR will be dependent on the outcomes of this study. KPC is in the process of identifying additional fields in Kuwait which could potentially be used for EOR using PRIZe CO2 sources. It may be worthwhile to strategic direction with regard to utilisation of captured CO2.
