Iraq, as well as many other countries in the region, are facing the mounting challenge of transboundary Sand and Dust Storms (SDS). Over the past two decades, the frequency and intensity of SDS have increased, fuelled by factors like desertification, changing land-use patterns, water scarcity, rising temperatures, and prolonged droughts—manifestations of the pressing climate change impact on the region. UN-Habitat is currently implementing the project on “Improved Resilience against Transboundary Sand and Dust Storms in Kuwait and Iraq”.
