Tenders are invited for Consultancy Service to Prepare a Comprehensive Portfolio of Malt Barely Agrochemical Suppliers and Their Products on Barley-Based Farming Systems

Crop pests (weeds, diseases, and insects) not only reduce yield but also reduce quality of malt barley in the field and in the storage if not adequately controlled by farmers. Generally, pest management in Ethiopia is characterized by a combination of methods mainly cultural and use of agrochemicals. Agrochemicals (crop protection products/ pesticides) are designed to protect crops from insects, diseases, and weeds. They do so by controlling pests that infect, consume, or damage the crops. However, access to and sustainable use of agro-chemicals of the required type and sustainable use of agro-chemicals are a challenge for most small-scale farmers.
To this end, the purpose of this study is to document a comprehensive portfolio of agro-chemical suppliers and their products, with a particular focus to agrochemicals that can be used to control different pests in the barley-based farming systems.

The specific objectives are to:
Develop a comprehensive portfolio of agrochemical companies and/or their dealers along with their registered agrochemical products by pesticide used for barley
List agrochemicals/ pesticides such as insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and nematicide, etc. utilized for barley
Identify gaps where there is missed agrochemicals/ pesticides that are not yet registered by any of the suppliers in the country

Scope of Work and deliverables
The consultant is expected to undertake the following major tasks among others:
Design the assessment tools/instruments to be employed and submit to SHA for comments
Amend the tools based on comments from SHA
Gather secondary data/information through a desk review
Gather primary data/information from various sources
Conduct interviews and focus group discussions to generate information from all relevant stakeholders
Document list of agrochemical companies and/or their dealers along with their registered agrochemical products by pesticide
Assess the required agrochemicals/pesticides and types of agrochemicals/ pesticides supplied/registered in the country either through their product name and/or list of active ingredients
Identify missed agrochemicals/ pesticides Submit the draft report to SHA
Obtain comments and suggestions on the report, incorporate, and submit the final report and
Present the findings to relevant stakeholders
