Description: BACKGROUNDWorld Health Organization (WHO) estimates the prevalence of dementia to be between 5% to 8% among the general population. Malaysian National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2018 revealed that prevalence of probable dementia was 8.5% in Malaysia, higher than the global WHO estimates.To address the increasing disease burden of dementia in Malaysia, Ministry of Health has drafted an action plan in line with the WHO Global Action Plan on The Public Health Response to Dementia 2017-2025. The action plan outlines seven broad multi-sectoral whole-government strategies addressing risk reduction, early diagnosis, and holistic management of dementia. Most importantly, this new strategy recognizes the importance of engaging people with dementia and their caregivers.Caregivers of people with dementia play an important role in helping people manage the disease, as they provide the hands-on care and support.
