Destination Earth (or DestinE) is an initiative funded by the European Commission (under DG-CNECT) and co-developed by three Entrusted Entities (3Es): the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). The objective of this initiative is to develop - on a global scale - a highly accurate digital model of the Earth to monitor and predict the interaction between natural phenomena and human activities. The main building blocks of the infrastructure, required to reach DestinE-s ambitious goals, are: a) The DestinE core Service Platform (DESP; responsibility of ESA), based on an open, flexible, scalable, and evolvable secure cloud-based architecture. b) The DestinE Data Lake (DEDL; responsibility of EUMETSAT) for handling the storage and access requirements for any input and output DestinE data. c) The Digital Twin Engine (DTE; responsibility of ECMWF)
