Expression of Interest are invited for Developing a Catalogue and Decision Tree for NBS in Rural Landscapes
Objectives
To support the integration of NBS in project investments focusing on rural landscapes, the World Bank intends to contract a consultancy firm to:
a) Develop a comprehensive Catalogue of Nature-Based Solutions for Rural Climate Resilience and Adaptation, including case studies, estimated costs, and potential benefits. The catalogue should be based on the UN NBS definition, providing benefits for biodiversity and socioeconomic objectives. This catalogue complements the World Bank Catalogue of Nature-based Solutions for Urban Resilience.
b) Based on the identified NBS in the catalogue, the firm will develop a rapid rural NBS decision tree tool that helps World Bank teams, and decision-makers determine which NBS typologies are relevant to the context and challenges of an investment project or for strategies and policies. The decision tree tool should be problem-oriented by identifying one or more NBS to resolve a particular problem (e.g., flooding, wildfires, soil erosion, etc.) The decision tree tool should work together with the catalogue as a joint process for identifying NBS opportunities.
Scope of work
The consultancy will focus on the objectives stated above and will be developed to support the NBS Invest project, which adopts the UN definition of NBS. The project highlights the role of ecosystems and biodiversity as a core component of NBS, ensuring they also benefit nature.
Proactive work is expected to ensure the accomplishment of the consultancy-s objective, in coordination with the World Bank team. The assignment is intended to be completed within seven months of the contract signing
