Tenders are invited for Developing an Industrial Decarbonization Approach in the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) Region
3. The East Asia and Pacific (EAP) region is experiencing rapid industrial growth, which has led to significant greenhouse gas emissions. There is thus an urgent need to develop a Comprehensive framework to support industrial decarbonization in the region, focusing on industrial energy efficiency (EE), fuel switching, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS).
4. Modest improvements have already been made in energy efficiency and in renewable energy uptake, and some positive steps have been taken in the areas of international collaboration and innovation. However, progress is occurring far too slowly. Greater material and energy efficiency, more rapid uptake of low carbon fuels, and faster development and deployment of near zero-emission (NZE) production processes - including CCUS and hydrogen - are all needed if meaningful progress towards NZE Scenario milestones is to be made by 2030.
5. The Word Bank has completed analytics on energy decarbonization from May 2020 till December 2023, which was funded by the ESMAP. A report titled “Technology Innovations in Industrial Decarbonization in Developing Countries” was delivered as a key deliverable in 2022. The objective of the study was to produce a comprehensive report on innovative technological solutions for decarbonizing industries in WB client countries. The report focused on solutions that have a high green-house gas emissions abatement potential and high scalability.
