Tenders are invited for Disruptive Flexible Phased Array Antennas for Emerging Spaceborne Applications - Expro Plus

Traditional phased array systems are generally rigid, bulky, heavy, and cost inefficient which limits their use in compact or portable devices and systems. This becomes a major limiting factor especially in emerging applications requiring space-borne phased array antennas with a physical aperture significantly larger as compared to the satellite surface. This activity aims to develop a new potentially disruptive technology based on phased array antennas, including passive and active components, realised on flexible materials. Preliminary successful developments have been completed in this domain. Still several challenges remain open:- Supporting the phased array when deployed, - Increasing the aperture efficiency, - Inclusion of a beamforming network in the phased arrays. The operational frequencies can be selected from the L band to the Ka band based on credible business perspectives.

This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Trade-off between different architectures.- Preliminary design.- Detailed design of a baseline architecture.- Design, manufacturing and testing of a representative breadboard with at least 16 radiating elements, including a beam forming network with passive and active components, able to generate at least 4 beams.- Lesson learnt and roadmap. Procurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl. SMEs) is required.
