Tenders are invited for External Cloud Services for the Flight Operations Segment of the Sentinels Expansion Missions

The European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) is the mission control centre for the European Space Agency (ESA), located in Darmstadt, Germany. It plays a crucial role in the operational management of ESA's space missions, including Earth Observation satellites. ESOC is responsible for the operational lifecycle of a mission, covering the ground segment preparation, launch and early orbit phase, routine and critical in-flight operations, as well as de-orbiting and decommissioning.ESOC manages an extensive and sophisticatedground infrastructure that forms the backbone of its mission operations. The Mission Operations Infrastructure (MOI) plays a pivotal role in the success of a satellite mission, providing the necessary infrastructure for command and control, data reception, processing, and distribution. It also includes a computer infrastructure that hosts all related computer systems and telemetry data. This compute infrastructure is hosted in the two on-premises data centres at ESOC, to ensure its resilience and availability.ESA intents to enhance its compute infrastructure operational flexibility, and service delivery capabilities. Therefore, it is shifting towards using external Cloud services to support specific workloads within the Missions Operations Infrastructure. This is an initial step in a strategic move towards adopting external Cloud services, laying the foundation for ESA operations to leverage the scalability, agility, and cost-efficiency that external Clouds can offer. Working with competent industry partners that align with our technical requirements and operational needs, will allow ESA to enrich and diversify its operational IT capabilities. As initial goal, ESA will host the Copernicus Sentinels Expansion Missions computer systems in a Hybrid Cloud environment during the missions preparationphase, to LEOP (Launch and Early Orbit Phase), to the in-orbit commission of the different spacecrafts. The Sentinels Expansion Missions are a set of new missions planned to augment the capabilities of the existing Copernicus program. The expansion missions aim to fill observational gaps left by the current Sentinel missions and introduce new capabilities to track various environmental parameters with improved precision and resolution.ESA would like to challenge the European industry expertise, innovation, and leadership, to support the Agency into this transformation with the adoption of external Cloud services, focusing on the success of Copernicus Sentinels Expansion Missions
