Expression of Interest are invited for Feasibility Study of Grains Bulk Storage for Pakistan
Pakistan-s Punjab province, known as the nation-s breadbasket, faces significant challenges in its grain acquisition, transportation, and storage (ATS) segment. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) conducted a study of the ATS of wheat, rice, and maize, revealing an estimated annual loss of US$ 2 billion due to inefficient agricultural practices. To address this, the IFC is partnering with a Pakistan-based business group to develop a modern grain storage facility for maize, aiming to re-engineer the ATS, eliminate middlemen, and enhance food safety and quality. Maize holds crucial importance for Pakistan-s food security and economy, serving as a staple food crop, vital feed ingredient, and source of income for farmers. Additionally, maize has industrial applications, contributing to industrial development and economic diversification. The IFC-s Upstream team is driving an Umbrella Project, with Component 1 focusing on assessing through a consultant firm the feasibility of developing Bulk Storage Depots (BSDs) in Pakistan, potentially benefiting large agro processors interested in enhancing food security and safety through long-term agreements with BSD operators.
