The thermal waste treatment in Germany has been the essential pillar of the waste and circular economy for years and fulfills the highest environmental standards. However, further developments and the use of resource-friendly and energy-efficient technologies are required to meet future requirements for resource and climate protection. For this purpose, efficient exhaust gas cleaning processes, heat shift systems and innovative techniques such as the oxyfuel process are suitable for this. While initial applications in the area of exhaust gas cleaning and process optimization (e.g. exhaust gas condensation to increase heat coupling from the exhaust gas or oxygen enrichment of the primary air to reduce the total exhaust gas amount) have been recorded, the oxyfuel procedure for thermal waste treatment has so far been little examined.
