The University of Alberta is providing an Advanced Contract Award Notice to acquire a Beckman Coulter CytoFlex Flow Cytometer. Justification to sole source is as follows:Alberta Cell Therapy Manufacturing (ACTM) operates within a highly specialized area, producing products for clinical trials under stringent regulatory requirements set by Health Canada. Given the critical nature of our operations and the necessity for seamless testing processes, it is imperative to maintain equipment consistency and mitigate potential risks associated with downtime.ACTM currently utilizes the Beckman CytoFlex Flow Cytometer for product testing, a choice made based on its compatibility with our processes and adherence to regulatory standards. To ensure uninterrupted operations and mitigate the risk of equipment malfunction, ACTM intends to procure a backup unit. ACTM manufactures cell therapy products for clinical trials on a fee for service basis. Before the products can be released to the patients in the clinical trials, the manufactured product must be tested for identity, purity and sterility. Flow cytometry assays are used to test for identity and these assays are developed during the product development stages of the project. The flow cytometry assays developed are unigue for each project and product type. The assay result must meet predetermined specifications before the product can be released to the patient.
