The International Council of the UNESCO program "People and the Biosphere" awarded the Drömling as the 17th UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Germany on June 14, 2023. Biosphere reserves are obliged to submit a framework concept at the latest three years after recognition by the UNESCO. This results in the period of the development of the framework concept by the end of 2025.
The framework concept and the UNESCO application are to define as guiding principles, goals and standards for the UNESCO biosphere reserve as a whole and in its zones, on the basis of which an evaluation is carried out by the UNESCO 10 years after international recognition.
