Request for proposals are invited for Gender Lens Investing Financial Advice.
The aim of the project is to provide targeted financial advice on how to design and structure investment instruments and fund structures for both our Gender Lens Incubator and Gender Lens Fund.
The project has two phases: incubator and fund. The supplier will work closely with Plan International-s Gender Lens Investing team in Kenya throughout the project to deliver on these activities. Indicative activities include:
Phase 1: Gender Lens Incubator
· Design an innovative financial instrument for early-stage businesses with a minimum viable product, consider instruments such as recoverable grants, forgivable loans, etc.
· Design the investment instrument
· Outline the legal considerations for incorporation and usage by a non-profit organisation
· Outline the key considerations for how to deploy the instrument
· Create due diligence criteria to assess applicants to the fund
· Design potential term sheets for proposed investment instruments
· Develop sample term sheets
· Develop an accompanying document that explains the terms and implications they could have for entrepreneur and their business
Phase 2: Gender Lens Fund
· Develop the investment thesis for the Fund
· This should consist of a thorough examination of key factors such as the risk-return profile, type of instrument, stage of investment and investee profile
· It should be noted that this is an impact-focused initiative and therefore the investment thesis must deliver on the impact KPIs developed in the Theory of Change
· Assess fund management partners for a blended capital fund
· Conduct due diligence of suggested fund managers and if necessary, suggest additional fund managers for consideration
· Define the role of the fund management partner
· Where applicable, provide introductions to fund managers who should be consider based on the in-depth due diligence
· Design fund structure
· Advise on optimal fund structure, including location and size
· Develop economic model for the fund to identify optimal mix of concessional and commercial capital
· Outline the legal considerations for incorporation and usage by a non-profit organisation
· Develop the fundraising strategy for the fund
· Identify how to leverage Plan International-s existing funding capabilities and networks
· Determine the ideal mix of private capital, donations and grant capital
· Design potential term sheets for proposed investment vehicles
· Develop sample term sheets
· Develop an accompanying document that clarifies and explain what the terms mean and implications they could have for entrepreneur and their business
