The research object of legal handwriting comparison is handwritten signatures, texts and/or numbers. Signatures are examined to see if the person himself wrote the signature in his name or not. Other writings are examined to see if the person being compared has written the books by handfavorite writings or which of the writings are written by the same person. Documents to be examined are, for example, various business, debt, power of attorney and protocols, contracts, certificates, wills, personal documents and various anonymous writings. Research papers can also be requestedfrom copies of eiden, if the originals are not available, or from handwritten inscriptions on different surfaces. The documents to be examined are written in the Latin alphabet. Most of them are in Finnish, but the research material can also be in other languages. One studyits material includes several documents to be examined. The forensic laboratory of the Central Criminal Police (hereinafter also RTL) is an accredited laboratory that has produced legal handwriting comparisons in the past.
