In order to prevent the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), a regulation was issued in 2017 that all salt pans in the Nordfjella area should be closed to deer, reindeer and moose. The closure took place by installing gates that were fastened together around the salt stones. In total, there are around 700 salt places
