Tenders are invited for High Performance and Modular Batteries for Future Launchers
In the future, launchers as automotive vehicles, will be more and more electric and reusable. The requirement of high-performance batteries is common to the two domains and the study of the potential synergy is of interest to foster European independency and increase competitiveness.Currently, the electrification of pneumatic and hydraulic functions of the launchers generates new power and energy needs demand. For example, from Ariane 5 to Ariane 6, the power demand has been increased from a factor 10 and the energy consumption by a factor 20 for the sizing missions. As the future launchers will be more and more electric, some preliminary calculations indicate that the power and energy demands will increase by another factor 10.As the battery cells for electric vehicle is a massproduction market, it drives the performances of battery cells and their rapid design evolutions.This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Conduct a survey on high performances battery cells available in Europe (e.g. automotive gigafactories), analysing their adequacy for the needs of future launchers- Characterize the best battery cell candidates- Develop a modular battery packagingagnostic with regard to the evolutions of the battery cells design- Testing and validation- Develop a technology maturation roadmapProcurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl.
