The aim of purchasing the computing cluster is to provide the scientists at the Helmholtz Center Hereon with a powerful on-site computing infrastructure, which enables the creation of competitive scientific results. The new computing cluster should be used by all Instituts of the Hereon can be used for model calculations. The HPC cluster "Strand" is currently used regularly by around 150 scientists. The spectrum of model applications includes models from earth system science and materials science. In addition to classical numerical parallelisiMachine learning models are also used in addition to deterministic models.
