IFC, member of the World Bank Group, is currently seeking the services of a firm or a consortium of firms to support the development of its 2025-2030 Africa Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) strategy in alignment with the WBG target to significantly scale-up energy access towards reaching 250 million people by 2030.

For the purpose of the strategy, DRE will include the following business models and technologies: Solar Home Systems, Mini-Grids, Clean Cooking solutions, e-Vehicles and associated infrastructure, Commercial and Industrial renewables (C&I) as well as distributed grid-tied renewable or storage assets.

The strategy is expected to cover areas including but not limited to: DRE technologies / business models and their associated market potential per country/geographies, regulatory landscapes, key players, WBG synergies as well as financing instruments and solutions.

Finally, and leveraging data collection and analysis undertaken towards developing IFC-s DRE strategy, the selected firm will be expected to develop short and crisp “market insight” documents for each DRE sub-sector to be disseminated externally, possibly under a co-branding arrangement. This will provide much needed information on these promising yet nascent markets as a public good while also helping position IFC as a market leader in the space.
