Summary
FTL is seeking a national expert to conduct a market study under the project “Tawazon Tabie aiming to strengthen the resilience of farmers and producers” funded by Agence Française du Développement AFD and implemented by Fair Trade Lebanon in the Bekaa region.
Objective
Tawazon Tabie project is designed to strengthen the resilience of farmers and producers in Lebanon's Bekaa region in tackling climate change. This will be achieved through activities centered around raising awareness, providing education, and providing economic support. The project aims to assist 180 farmers and 120 producers through training programs and provision of equipment and inputs for better access to means of production and practices adapted to climate change. FTL is seeking a market expert to conduct a comprehensive market study at three levels: local, national, and international.
The objective of this study is to identify food sectors present in the market that also have high economic value through:
Identification of potential stakeholders in the region who could play a role in the development of the identified food sectors.
Characterization of different agricultural lands to assess their suitability for the cultivation of the different identified food sectors.
Assessment of the challenges and needs of food sectors in the region to understand the obstacles faced by existing food sectors and to identify the specific needs of each sector.
Assessment of new potential crops and new food sectors to determine the potential for success of introducing new crops and new food sectors in the Bekaa region.
The results of this study will serve as a basis for the development of strategies and action plans aimed at supporting the growth of existing food sectors and introducing promising new sectors in the region.
Estimated duration of the mission
Desired Period: 9 days during June 2024.
Deliverables
The assessment should be done in a participatory approach, engaging actively all the stakeholders and partners in Bekaa, and should benefit from previous studies and assessments done to avoid any duplication and build upon existing information.
The expert is expected to:
First submit a timetable and an inception report
Report the findings of the literature review (supporting documents)
Comprehensive market study at three levels: local, national, and international.
Qualifications
The project partners are looking for:
Good knowledge of the agricultural sector and food value chains.
Good knowledge of the local context (Bekaa region).
A consultant with expertise in needs assessment for value chains in Lebanon.
Skills
He or she must have the following qualities and skills:
Significant experience in agricultural development projects.
Good understanding of key agricultural and food value chains.
Strong pedagogical and synthesis and communication skills.
Proven experience in data collection, analyses and needs assessments.
Proficiency in the English and Arabic languages as the data collection will take place in Arabic considering the participants' profiles and the reporting in English.
Payment terms
Payments will be made bank fresh cheques
The price will be paid in USD while the VAT will be paid in LBP based on the official exchange rate on the date of the invoice.
Payment will be made within 20 business days of invoice receipt.
