Tenders are invited for On-Board Digital Chain for High Resolution (1-2m) Optical Imagers
Digital processing solutions are a major contributor to the performance delivered by optical instruments. They allow for more cost-efficient missions and less complex instrument designs as image-based solutions may remove the need for specific hardware (e.g. WFE sensors) and relax major requirements such as line of sight stability. Moreover, there is also an increasing need for data analysis on board to enable more autonomy and/or a faster and more cost-efficient delivery to end users. However, the results achieved so farare suffering from a general lack of pre-processing solutions (co-registration, reflectance conversion, orthorectification, etc). This activity aims at developing "standard" pre-processing engines which allow the re-use of hardware and software building blocks across diverse missions and improve the data quality and usability. Three functional groups are to be considered: WaveFront Error (WFE) sensing, Digital Stabilization and Analysis Ready Data.Activity defines a generic reference on-board digital processing functional architecture identifying:- EO use cases to address all common and application-specific functions.- All relevant interfaces and dependencies (e.g., optical sensors, active optics, avionics, data handling units, ground processing/operations, instrument design, radio/geo-metric calibration parameters, etc.)- Preliminary breakdown by potential components (e.g. FPGAs, processors)For each functional group, this activity encompasses the following tasks:- Select specific use-case(s) and consolidate performance requirements- Identify and review candidate algorithmic approaches. Define a justified baseline selection based on functional performance vs. complexity assessment- Generation of a dataset, addressing target mission (representative instrument simulation) and target processing function- Detailed design, implementation and performance validation of reference functions (golden models) in a high level language (+ respective ATBDs test vectors)- Feasibility assessment for critical functions identified within this activity through validation on simulated hardware environment and/or software deployment- Prototyping of a breadboard for digitally stabilized TDI with super-resolutionThe outcome of this activity is software reference models of the digital chain, including datasets, test vectors, as well as preliminary hardware implementation for digitally stabilized TDI with super-resolution. Software shall be delivered under an ESA Software Community Licence
