Ore/22/093 - Floating Offshore Wind - Cost, Risk And Failure Of Different Mooring Spreads And Number Of Mooring Lines
The consequences and associated costs of mooring line failure on a floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) is an area of great debate within the mooring and anchoring space. These consequences will not only have operational implications (such as lost energy production, mooring line replacement, export cable maintenance, anchor re-positioning etc.) but the knowledge of these consequences and costs will also have an effect on the mooring and anchoring methodology applied to a FOWT. Previous studies on the subject matter have largely concentrated on the likelihood of different failure modes, whereas this study will concentrate on the consequences of such failures. Assuming different mooring line failure modes, the study shall consider:
• What corrective actions are needed?
• What risk is there to other systems / assets?
• What systems are in place to prevent further damage?
• How much in total is a failure going to cost?
