PPIAFis a global, multi-donor trust fund established in 1999, dedicated tostrengthening institutions to promote sustainable infrastructure with private sectorparticipation and enable market-based financing for sub-national entities.PPIAF provides grant funding for support to EMDE governments in the areas ofmarket creation and institutions building, policy and regulatory reforms, earlydevelopment of a range of public-private partnership (PPPs) options andimproving the creditworthiness of state-owned enterprises and municipalentities, as well as funding a wide range of related knowledge products. Beingat the forefront on developing enabling environment for private participationin infrastructure, PPIAF has funded over 1, 700 activities in 130+ countriesaimed at enabling developing countries establish PPP and PSP enablingframeworks aligned with international goodpractice. PPIAF-s annual programming budget is around USD 10 million to 15million. Addressing barriers holding back greater private sector finance forclimate mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity-positive infrastructure is anintegral part of PPIAF-s strategy. In all activities, PPIAF considersclimate-smart infrastructure development and systematically includes climate& gender considerations.
