Expression of Interest are invited for Production of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems.
Closing Date: Friday, 15. Jul 2022
Intervention Sector(s): Water sanitation and hygiene
With the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF has been in the last two years testing several technologies to be able to treat the wastewater generated by the informal settlement residents as well as being a possible solution for the Lebanese citizen living in areas where it-s not cost-effective to be connected to conventional wastewater sewer networks.
By 2020, 22 pilots have been installed and tested. UNICEF, with the support of Umwelt-Projekt-Management GmbH 1 (UPM), has reviewed the results of the different systems based on the operation and maintenance; definition of all the costs incurred; footprint, and compliance to the limit of discharge in the environment stated in the decision 8/1 MoE 2001.
This revision has informed the design of two new systems identified as being the combination of the most effective technologies tested before. The first system used is a combination of an Anaerobic baffled reactor and Anaerobic filter; the second system includes an additional treatment using Biological Aerated Filter. Thirty-two systems of those new designs will be installed by the end of 2021.
UNICEF is currently contracting design and mould companies to ensure the completion of the Design For Manufacturing report and associated injection mould production to ensure compliance with the ISO/DIS 30500 and ISO 14622.
UNICEF is forecasting the need for 1, 580 tanks to be ordered, depending on the funding capacity, for the installation of the treatment systems in different informal settlements in the country.
UNICEF with the selected company will be defining the best contractual modality for both parties. The first discussion will be held regarding the injection-mould production. UNICEF or the company can produce the mould. In the event, UNICEF produces the mould, it will only be lent to the production company.
General information and requirements:
UNICEF is looking for a company producing water tanks and preferably underground water tanks to produce the designed solution.
The company must be entrusted legal company having all the permits for its activity and undergo the registration with all competent authorities.
The company must produce triple layer water tanks.
The company would preferably be producing wastewater underground reinforced tanks.
The company showing interest in the project must provide us with their preferred option - submission of DFM report and the company produce the mould - or UNICEF produce the mould and lend it to the company.
