The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), Earth Systems Research Laboratories (ESRL), Global Monitoring Laboratory (GML) is expanding their existing Surface Radiation Budget Network (SURFRAD) as well as their compact, portable radiation systems (RadSys), and upgrading their instrumentation at Global Monitoring Laboratory (GML) Baseline Observatories. These radiometers are used to measure all components of the solar radiation budget, which can then be used for improving weather and climate models, renewable energy, wildfire smoke studies, and satellite products. The GML needs new solar radiometers to outfit new permanent sites and portable platforms, and currently use OTT Hydromet-s Kipp & Zonen pyrheliometers, pyranometers, pyrgeometers, and cables.
INTENDED USE/PURPOSE:
Pyrheliometers are a device used to measure the direct solar energy, providing the ability to measure the direct solar component at our new Surface Radiation Budget Network (SURFRAD) and Baseline Observatory sites. Pyranometers can be used to measure the total solar radiation as well as diffuse solar radiation when shaded, allowing the ability to measure both the total and diffuse components at new observation sites. Pyrgeometers are a device that is used to measure the in...
