The ETZELWERK power station on SBB is a pumping-winding plant that uses the level difference between the Sihlsee and the Lake Zurich. The installation was put into service in the 1930s and was then enlarged in stages. After obtaining the 2023 concession for the continuation of the exploitation of the hydraulic forces between the lakes of Sihl and Zurich, the installation of the power plant must be partially renewed and the parts of the installation at the end of a technical life must Be replaced. As part of the Etzelwerk power plant renewal project, SBB predicted to partially replace the motor waterway and replace three of the seven groups of machines from the Altendorf power station with new ones.
