Quotation are invited for Replacement of Air Conditioners at Southern Depotroads and Storm Water Office
Procurement Less than R200 000 (including vat)
Specification
1.1Equipment to be replaced
a) Air con Replacement - Esikhawini southern depot
Remove existing air conditioners and replace them with 3 x 12 000 BTU
split units
1.2Air con Replacement
a) Remove existing air con units and deliver them to building and structures
at EES stores for scrapping as per municipal standards.
b) Supply, deliver and commission air conditioners described in 1.1 (a)
above.
c) Supply and install new piping complete with amoflex pipe insulation
throughout.
d) Seal openings on wall with silo form and make look good.
e) Connect newly replaced air con units on existing air con isolators
f) Affix stick with air con unique number to the installed evaporator units.
g) Provide remotes for all units with batteries
h) Give brief presentation to the office occupant on how the air con is
operated - register for such training to be submitted with invoice.
i) Commission newly replaced air con units
1.3Reports
Successful bidder is expected on completion to provide a detailed report to
the project manager.
a) An excel spread sheet indicating total number of air cons installed with
office number, air con ID number, size of the air con and the date of
installation.
b) Operating manuals for newly installed/replaced air cons
c) Remotes with batteries fixed on holders on each room
d) Job cards on company letter head indication individual air con
installation/replacement, date of installation, name of installation technician
and be signed by the end user confirming installation work, after a
demonstration on how the air con is operated.
1.4Pricing

applicable and their assistants
Travelling to all sites
1.5Tools and equipment
Suppliers to provide own general equipment and tools such as basic tools,
ladders, hose pipes, welding torch, Electrical testers and other testing
equipment, lifting equipment, scaffolding and or aerial platforms.
i) Fixed cost of scaffolding to include, supply deliver on site and dismantling
on completion
ii) Fixed cost for aerial platforms to include supply and delivery to site.
2. Electrical installation
2.1Working on Electrical installations
a) Electrical work must always be carried out and supervised by “competent
personnel” in terms of SANS 10142 - 1 as amended, and strictly no live
work to be carried out.
b) Contractors to ensure that power supply to appliance they work on, is
safely isolated, locked out and tagged out at all times on isolators prior to
working on appliances to prevent electrical shocks and or electrocution
and also to meet requirements of electrical regulations.
c) Also to ensure that respective circuit breakers feeding air con circuits are
safely isolated, locked and tagged out at all times, when replacing such
isolators terminating from distribution boards to prevent electrical shocks
and or electrocution and also to meet requirements of electrical
regulations.
d) Air con power points shall be independent from others and shall have its
own individual circuit breaker and an isolator, properly labelled as in 2.3
below, should this not be the case note must be made and brought to the
attention of the project leader.
e) Air con points must be terminated from the closest DB complete with
conduits including couplings, adaptors, termination boxes, galvanised
saddles foxed with wall plugs and screws against finished walls and or roof
rafters also full lengths of house wires and or suffix cables with correct
current capacity for each circuit it feeds from the DB to up to the isolator
but excluding circuit breaker and an isolator.
f) Cable lengths shall be full lengths from the DB to the isolators and no
joints in between will be acceptable.
g) No pieces of Single core cables will be allowed as jumpers when adding
new circuit breakers instead, a full length of approved bus bars shall be
used.
h) Distribution boards with full capacity shall be reported to the project leader
to allow for upgrading of such DB with a bigger size, cutting of DB covers
to add new circuit breakers is strictly prohibited as such act results in
power trips when load capacity is exceeded.
i) No Curve 1 air con circuit breakers shall be used permitted on DB-s
2.2Air con isolators
a) Air con isolators must be lockable and be within arm-s reach from the air
conditioner in question.
b) Isolators shall be a lockable, water proof double pole type as (MCE - HFP
2/3) with separable bases, cable terminations must be on bases with water
proof grommets and compression glands suitable for cables used.
2.3Labelling
a) All isolators must be labelled accordingly, indicating appliance number,
feeder distribution board and circuit breaker number.
b) Revise typed in legend card to indicate newly installed circuits
c) Evaporator must be labelled as specified in 2.3(b) (i) below.
