On September 29, 2023, Parliament adopted a modification of the law on transplantation. Changes in particular increase the safety of patients in transplantation medicine by introducing a widespread vigilance system. Such vigilance systems exist in several medical areas, especially for drugs and medical devices. Already already, the quality and safety of transplants are very high in Switzerland. Strict requirements apply, and all stages relating to the donation and transplantation of organs, tissues or cells must be rigorously recorded. However, current legislation does not provide an obligation to declare serious incidents and unwanted reactions. This obligation will now be introduced. Anyone who is aware of a serious incident or a serious adverse reaction must point out to the competent vigilance service after the new regulations.
