Title: SIOS Laser Displacement System

BACKGROUND

The National Institute on Standards and Technology (NIST), Dimensional Meteorology Group (DMG) requires a compact laser interferometer system to integrate into a NIST custom-built laser micrometer. The current system uses a laser interferometer that has an offset between the outgoing and incoming measurement beams. This can increase the error in the measured length and requires heavier optics which can cause errors due to deformation of the instrument. A new laser displacement system produced by SIOS has a zero offset between the incoming and outgoing beams, which make alignment of the laser simpler, reduces the errors caused by the weight of large optics, and potentially reduces the offset error.

Purpose/Objective: The purpose of this procurement is to reduce the error in the NIST laser micrometer measurements.
