Türkiye's strategic geographic location and robustconnectivity position it as a pivotal player in global trade flows, withsignificant potential for growth. The country is actively enhancingits integration into global value chains by reducing trade barriers andstrengthening regulatory frameworks. Despite substantial export earnings, Türkiye's trade relative to GDP remains lower than many peers, indicating roomfor expansion. Efforts to diversify export markets have reduced reliance ontraditional partners like the EU, increasing trade with the Middle East, NorthAfrica, and Asia. The logistics sector is transforming, with plans to modernizetrucking and develop railways, addressing the high reliance on truck transportand underutilization of rail freight. Türkiye's transport infrastructure isvulnerable to climate and non-climate hazards, necessitating resilience anddecarbonization efforts. The Türkiye Logistics Master Plan (2020-2053) aims tooptimize supply chains, reduce costs, and attract transit traffic, supportingeconomic growth. Over the last decade, motor vehicles and clothing have emergedas prominent value chains, with significant export and import activities, particularly with the EU and MENA regions.The goal of this consultancy is two-fold: (a) todetermine key opportunities to improve supply chain performance for selectedcommodity groups in Türkiye and (b) to assess the resilience of these supplychains to climate and natural disaster risks. For these three value chains, the consultant isexpected to:A. Map and assess their supply chains for Türkiye, undertaking descriptive and diagnostic analytics to understand their performance and challenges.B. Assess the climate and natural disaster risks posed to the supply chains.C. Develop tangible and actionable recommendations for improving the overall performance of the two supply chains and making them more resilient to climate and disaster risks, including roles of different stakeholders.
