Description
TECHNOLOGY LICENSING OPPORTUNITYAdvanced Parallel Baffle Electrode for Electrochemical Slurry ReactorsAccelerates the processing time and efficiency of electrochemical slurry reactors, to reduce the operating and capital costs of hydrometallurgy, electrosynthesis, and wastewater treatment systems.
Opportunity: Idaho National Laboratory (INL), managed and operated by Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC (BEA), offers the opportunity to explore a license and/or collaborative research agreement to commercialize the advanced parallel baffle electrode technology. This technology transfer opportunity is part of a dedicated effort to convert government-funded research into job opportunities, businesses, and, ultimately, an improved way of life for the American people.Overview: Traditional electrode designs have long posed significant challenges in electrochemical slurry reactors, particularly when striving for both efficient mixing and electrochemical conversion in a single reactor. The Parallel Baffle Electrode, developed to solve these dual problems, originated from the groundwork of INL-s patented EC-Leach process (US 2022/0223932 A1), with its primary application being the electrochemical leaching of slurries.Description: This segmented electrode design, applicable to both cathode and anode in electrochemical cells, introduces an innovative configuration inside stirred tanks, minimizing anode-cathode separation with an interspersed membrane. The setup promotes convection around the electrode, resulting in improved mixing, higher limiting currents, and faster processing times. Its design supports the unobstructed flow of slurry and particle suspension, bypassing previous challenges faced with electrode implementation in electrochemical slurry reactors.Benefits: • Maximizes efficiency in both slurry mixing and electrochemical conversion.• Reduces processing time, leading to equipment downsizing for given target throughput.• Increases limiting currents for i...
