According to the current state of the art, hydrogen tanks are tested for bursting at room temperature to check their safety. A test stand for checking the structural behavior of hydrogen tanks in the cryogenic temperature range does not currently exist. To ensure safety against bursting in the cryogenicTo ensure the temperature range, very conservative safety factors are used in the design. This results in additional structural weight.
For sustainable and safe aviation, the structural weight of hydrogen tanks should also be minimized but ensure the required safetybe accomplished. This first requires a fundamental experimental analysis of the structural behavior under combined thermal and mechanical cyclic loading. In a further step, missing characteristic values can then be derived and calculation methods can be validated in order to create a roTo enable bust and efficient design of future hydrogen tanks.
Depending on the selected design and manufacturing process, the dome areas and the transitions to the cylindrical area of hydrogen tanks are subject to a critical load condition. The problem is also increased if in dThese areas have additional system bushings and joints.
