Project Background:
The Sustainable Rooftop Gardens Project presents an innovative approach to the growth and harvesting of crops using a modified hydroponic model that is installed on the rooftop of houses of 186 families. The investment in this effective model creates a sustainable solution for families to reach self-sufficiency, meet their nutritional needs, and sell or distribute the surplus to families and neighbors. Thus, this project contributes to reducing food insecurity by increasing accessibility to needed vegetables, improving the living environment, enhancing social cohesion between families and their neighbors, and countering the effects of climate change.
Purpose of the Consultancy:
Objective: To support the livelihood of households through income-generation by improving their skills in accessing available markets and value chains through capacity building, and market engagement initiatives.
Anera is seeking a capacity-building consultant to deliver comprehensive training workshops to 186 women heads of households who have benefited from Anera-s Agricultural Project. The consultant will empower women with the knowledge and skills needed to generate income from the harvest of their rooftop gardens; as well as support in facilitating market linkages and providing women heads of households with ongoing mentorship.
Target Audience:
The target audience of the capacity-building and mentorship will be Palestinian and Lebanese women heads of households
Workshop Structure and Coverage:
Topics to be covered:
Basic business development and marketing
Basic budgeting and record keeping
Basic digital literacy
Development of women led income generation initiatives
Follow up and mentorship for women and support in market linkages
The selected consultant will be required to:
1. Implement capacity building sessions in the following regions: North Lebanon and South Lebanon
Tentative Training Locations:
Rashidieh Camp (South)
Saida (South)
Beddawi Camp (North)
2. Support women interested in developing income-generation initiatives in brainstorming initiatives and developing plans
Note: This activity will only be conducted with women who express interest in this activity and / or have preliminary ideas
3. Oversee and mentor women in implementation of income-generation ideas and support them in developing market linkages
4. Development of reports showing results and impact
Expected Outputs:
The expected outputs of the consultancy are as follows:
Development of comprehensive training materials
Development of a plan for the delivery of the training sessions, which takes into account the selected location (both geographic and delivery of actual training), number of participants, etc.
Implement training sessions
Delivery to Anera program team reports summarizing the training and mentorship activities
Travel:
Field visits are required to areas (North Lebanon and South Lebanon) based on the capacity building plan agreed upon with the project team. Transportation will be covered by the project from Beirut to the other areas.
Qualifications:
The consultant should possess the following qualifications and experience:
Experience in delivering tailored capacity building sessions to beneficiaries on basic business development and marketing, basic budgeting and record keeping, basic digital literacy
Experience in supporting and mentoring women in developing income-generation initiatives
Knowledge of food industry / market
Ability to design and deliver interactive and participatory training sessions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Fluency in Arabic
