In July 2023, the Ontario government released Powering Ontario-s Growth: Ontario's Plan for a Clean Energy Future (“POG”) which outlines early actions to meet the province-s growing demand for electricity in the 2030s and beyond while transitioning to a clean electricity system. As part of POG, the Ministry of Energy has asked the IESO to report back on the status of: (a) planning work on the transmission network required to support generation projects outlined in POG (e.g. connecting renewables in northern Ontario), including the timing of completing any future transmission work needed; and (b) the identification of new and existing corridors of land that should be protected for future transmission lines. To support the IESO with its transmission planning activities, including its response to the Ontario government, through this RFP the IESO intends to enter into an agreement with a service provider to study certain areas of the province and provide guidance and advice that will ultimately lead to a recommendation of corridor options to be preserved and protected for future transmission infrastructure.
