University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is one of the largest teaching hospital Trusts in England and the West Midlands, serving a regional, national and international population. A consortium of NHS Trusts (University Hospitals Birmingham and Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital) requires a solution for archiving data from several end-of-life Pathology Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), based upon a FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) repository.
Source data will include both reportable results type data and non-reportable data. Data must be retained for at least thirty years and remain accessible for continued daily interrogation.
The consortium anticipates that source data extracted from the legacy LIMS will be transformed to FHIR format and this is expected to be bulk loaded to initialise the repository.
