The University of Regensburg (client) is planning to set up an ultra-fast transmission electron microscope (UTEM) for the interdisciplinary research center "Regensburg Center for Ultrafast Nanoscopy" (RUN). For this purpose, a conventional aberration-corrected 200 keV transmission electrion microscope can be purchased, which is modified by the user for UTEM operation. The microscope to be procured should be equipped with a cold field emitter as an electron source and a probe aberration corrector. For energy-resolved electron detection, the microscope system mustinclude an imaging electron spectrometer. Furthermore, a single-electron-sensitive CMOS-based electron detector must be present before and after the electron spectrometer. For scanning transmission electron microscopy, bright and dark field detectors must be installed. ThereThe system also includes single and double tilt sample holders, as well as a double tilt sample holder that cools samples down to liquid nitrogen temperature. For holographic imaging, an electrostatic biprism must be built into the system.
To enable UTEM operation, it is eIt is essential that the microscope system is compatible with the user-developed femtosecond electron sources based on the 200 keV Schottky field emitter sources from the manufacturer JEOL.
