The Department of Health (DOH) is launching a comprehensive program designed to centralize the procurement and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs dispensed under government-funded programs like Thiqa. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of the supply chain by consolidating the purchasing process and ensuring that pharmaceuticals are procured at competitive prices. The program begins with the DOH conducting a tender process to finalize agents for each drug and set their prices. Certified distributors are also selected to handle the distribution and replenishment of these drugs. Public providers, such as government hospitals, will procure drugs at the negotiated prices through their current distributor, ensuring they benefit from cost savings. Private providers will initially buy drugs through their usual agents but will use a replenishment model where certified distributors check and restock their supplies at regular intervals.
